THE LEADING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
Leading of the Holy Spirit.
Every child of God, every one born and renewed by the Spirit of God has automatically come under the leadership and influence of the Holy Spirit, but many do not know this because they have not been trained or have now not given themselves to be trained so that their spiritual perception can be sharp enough to perceive when the Spirit is leading them.
Romans 8:14
[14]For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
Many believers desire to be led but don’t know how God leads. As long as you belong to Him, there will always be leading from Him. Leading is from God and perception is from us believers, thus we have to pray for sharper perception.
You cannot be outside the will of God or the path He has predestined for you and expect to be in alignment with His leadings. He is always leading, but because you are outside the path, it can be difficult to perceive His leadings. Walking outside His will makes you pay attention to the things you see in the physical than His leading.
Ephesians 1:18
[18]the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,
He has done everything in Christ Jesus and our responsibility is to know how to receive all that He has done, what He is saying and what He is showing us.
One of His assignments is to lead us and we all know that God will not fail in His assignment because He is a responsible God, so we do not pray to God to carry out His responsibility which is leading and also our birthright in Christ Jesus but we are to pray for clarity in perception.
When your DSTV cable is not positioned right, it will be difficult to get a channel with clear signals. This is the same with the leadings of God. It is the things of the Spirit and those that live in the realm of their senses/flesh that will find it difficult to discern when God is leading and when the flesh is leading.
Your perception gets clearer and sharper as you study and meditate on the accurate Word of God and in prayers. Prayers fine-tune your perception to hear from God clearly and accurately. The condition of your mind or your thought pattern will affect how you hear from God.
Our conscience is the voice of the mind not the Spirit and your thought over time can affect your conscience either positively or negatively. The mind functions based on the knowledge you have sustained over time. The question is: What have you been feeding your mind with? Have you been feeding it the word of God or those vain information?
Practice the leadings of the Spirit the same way you practice faith. You can start by practicing His leading in your life by following the written instructions in the Word of God. For example, the Bible says to not be unequally yoked with an unbeliever. So what business do you have dating an unbeliever? The Bible also says to pray without ceasing. Do you pray without ceasing or you spend 30mins in prayers or pray only when you are in need or trouble?
The Bible says to study to show yourself approved. Do you study at all? The Bible says to be joyful at all time, but you chose to focus on the situations around you and live in depression. When you live inside your circumstances you will he clouded with it, but when you live outside your circumstances, you get solution.
If you can’t follow these written instructions, do not expect the personal ones because you won’t be able to keep them. His leadings is directing us toward deeper relationship with Him. It is like a marriage where two have become one which is a mystery in itself. Now we understand that His Spirit became one with our spirit which forms the basis of our marital union with Him and as the Bridegroom, He is the head in theis marital affair that we have with Him, this He will do the leading.
To accurately perceive the leading of the Holy Spirit, you have to be a student of the Word. You must know God through His Word, know His character which speaks about Who He is, what He can do and will never do. This will help you to discern and differentiate when He is speaking and when the mind is speaking.
Hebrews 4:12
[12]For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
The Word of God separating the soul and the spirit is called discernment. Having enough Word in you will just prompt a knowing of Who is speaking. Renewing your mind with the Word helps the mind to be controlled by the Spirit, else it will be difficult to know when the Spirit is making decisions with you or when your flesh is.
